I know a lot of us have been trying to grow our hair out. I personally have been since summer of 2012. And right now I am going to dish everything I know about hair growth.
Let's start with a little hair basics:
-Our hair 80% protein. If you have been checking around you probably know that we need to up our intake of protein - this is why.
-There are three stages of our hair growth, I'll try to make this quick. Anagen is the stage where the hair is under the root and making its way up. Next comes the catagen stage, that is the one where the growth stops, about 3% of your hair is in that stage as you read this (assuming you are a normal person). The final stage is called telogen. About 6-8% of your hair is in the stage right now. During this stage, the hair completely for around 100 days, after that is falls out 25-100 of these hairs fall out each day.
Now we are going to talk about what we can do to speed up hair growth. There are three main things we need to cover.
As already mentioned, upping your intake of protein can be beneficial but it's not just protein your hair needs, our hair needs lots of nutrients and since it is not a necessity to us living our body will send nutrients to the scalp (and hair) last - that is the reason it is so important to get the nutrients.
Nutrients aren't the only thing you need of course!
The next thing we need to talk about is basic hair care. While this won't really help your hair growth, it will help keep it long and strong. I personally suggest a weekly hair mask, as well as learning to care for wet hair (this is so important because our hair is 30% more likely to break).
Lastly, we need to talk about the secret to hair growth, which is stimulation!
By stimulating the scalp, it will encourage the blood to flow to the scalp and that is how the nutrients will be delivered to the scalp. There are loads of simple and cheap ways to stimulate your scalp. The most common suggestion is to massage your scalp, but you can also just tip your hair upside down massaging peppermint oil (or mouthwash) onto your scalp quickly or have some fun and do a little head banging.
*Sleep on a silk pillow case to cut down on damaging your hair while you sleep.
*In addition to the pillow case, sleep in a "safe" style like a braid.
*Keep your hair in "safe" styles and up as often as you can to cut down on daily damaging.
*Make sure to drink lots of water - keep yourself hydrated from the inside out.
*Cut out as much sugar as you can, if you drink - stop, if you smoke - stop (or cut down at least). These three things are actually going to make growing your hair harder - and the drinking and smoking are actually going to deplete your body of things it needs.
*Make sure you are giving your hair enough TLC! Stop damaging it and start treating it with some love.
*I know I just said it, but it's really important that you stop damaging your hair. It's not going to help you grow your hair but its going to damage your hair less and mean you will have to cut it less.
*Don't wash your hair too often. If you do, it will strip away at the natural oils you have and can actually damage your hair! Also, a bonus for you busy ladies, the less you wash your hair, the less you need to!
*When washing your hair, be careful with it! Don't rub the strands together, instead comb the shampoo through your hair, when you get out don't rub the towel against your hair, instead blow it dry (and then let it hair dry). Also, never use a brush when your hair is wet, use a wide toothed comb.
