The winter season brings cold spells that rob the skin of moisture and often leave it feeling taut and flaky?
Body butter is the best way for keeping your skin smooth, supple and beautiful during the cold winter months, no matter what your skin type may be. Why is body butter better than lotion during the winter months? Body butter is thicker and contains creamy emollients that keep the skin soft and supple for hours. Lotion, on the other hand, you would have to reapply every hour to keep the skin moisturized.
Body butters are rich and often slightly greasy (if used during summer months) and normally contain cocoa butter, Shea butter, oils like coconut oil, almond oil, jojoba, grapeseed oil, vegetable glycerin and stearic acid. When choosing which is best for you, keep in mind how quickly your skin respond to the cold, dry air. Does it become taut and white? Does your skin itch? Most brands of quality body butter are differentiated for the different skin types - normal, dry, oily and sensitive skin.
One of the most effective ways of using body butter during the winter is to use it immediately after a bath. Towel dry and quickly apply the body butter to lock in moisture. Take your time massaging it into your skin. Pay attention to special areas, such as elbows, arms, knees and hands.
Body butter also doubles as a great hand cream. Use it after you are done with washing the dishes and notice how effortlessly it softens the skin on your hands. Consistent use of body butter will keep your skin feeling soft and smooth throughout the winter.
Homemade Body Butter:
Delightful, decadent and easy, I wanted to try making body butter for a long time. I love creamy body butters, who doesn't? Body butter can get quite expensive and also, full of ingredients that are less than desirable for your skin and health.
We often forget that our skin is the largest organ on our body and absorbs what we put on it. If you are using lotion and body butters with chemicals in them (fragrances, preservatives, color additives, etc) be aware that your skin absorbs those chemicals, too.
