Your heart is pounding, the clock is racing, and there's $80 burning a hole in your purse. You're almost there, just a few more feet between you and Sephora, but...
Don't you even think about spending your makeup money without a plan! It's not that difficult really, just a few simple rules that you should follow.
Rule #1: Make A List Of What You Need
Start out by taking a quick peek inside your skincare and makeup stash. What are you running out of, and what new items do you need? Remember, the key word here is need.
Rule #2: Do Your Research
Let's say you know what you need (like shampoo, for instance) but you aren't sure what brand to buy. Philosophy, Living Proof, Phyto, say what? Head over to a beauty review site like MakeupAlley and look through the categories until you find what you need. Then just scroll through the reviews, and click "Rating" to sort the products according to popularity. This helps in making a decision on what products you're getting. Then check the prices of the products you chose. Add up the total cost of what you need, and make sure you can still afford to make a small impulse buy.
Rule #3: Set Aside A Certain Amount For Impulse
Now that you're list is all ready to go, set aside a small amount of money for an impulse buy ($10-$15 is a good amount). You probably won't be able to resist all those pretty lipsticks and glosses, so it's safer for your wallet if you just assume that you'll cave, and set a limit on it. That way, you can take the exact amount of money that you'll need. You can't spend what you don't have with you!
Rule #4: Take Advantage Of Coupons, Sales, and Cards
If you're shopping at Sephora, make sure you have a Beauty Insider card! For every dollar you spend, you get a point. When your reach a certain amount of points, you get free skincare and makeup items.
If you're shopping at a counter, check the company's website to see if there are sales or free items available. Clinique is almost always giving away free items with purchases.
Go Shopping! Now you have all the information you need to save your money, so have fun!
